UoJCoders v1.0 platinum sponsored by Ceymplon!

Department of Computer Science (DoCS) of the Faculty of Science of the University of Jaffna (UoJ), Sri Lanka has organized and conducted the 12-hours inter-university coding competition referred to as UoJCoders v1.0, from Sat 16 Mar 2019 to Sun 17 Mar 2019 in closely with the Computer Society (CS) of the UoJ for the benefit of students who follow the degree programmes in the computer discipline in various universities in Sri Lanka.

Totally, 218 teams registered for the competition and 25 teams consisted of 3 student members per team, have been selected from the elimination round, through an online competition for the final round, and totally 24 teams have participated in the final round, and the participated team have been from the University of Colombo, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, University of Ruhuna, University of Sri Jayewardanepura, Uva Wellassa University, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, and University of Jaffna. The winners of the event have been, the First Place, the ‘CodeBreakers97’ team of the University of Moratuwa, the Second Place, the ‘BlackOrder’ team of the University of Moratuwa, and the Third Place, ‘ReachOut’ team of the University of Peradeniya.

The competition has been conducted online using the hackerrank platform (http:hackerrank.com) inspired by IEEEXtreme. It is realized that the competition has succeeded in providing the students with an excellent opportunity to enhance the problem-solving, programming, and coding skills among the undergraduate students by using the appropriate data structures and algorithms. The questions selected for the completion have been related to the real-world problems.

The CS of the UoJ has been disseminating the scientific knowledge with special emphasis on Computer Science and their application by conducting seminars, tech-talks, workshop competitions and such other programs, and by contributing the organizers financially, we are highly pleased and satisfied in realizing our continuous commitment for fulfilling our social responsibility.

The competition has contributed a lot to the students with the problem-solving, programming, and coding skills, and also imparted the teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. In the past, we our students had to attend the ‘Hackathon’ workshops conducted in other universities, and it has been a great achievement that, we have been able to conduct such a competition in our own place, and brought the students from other universities.
